Peoria Area Repair Café — a free repair event — invites locals to bring gently broken household items and work with volunteer repair coaches to fix them.
The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at River City Labs.
🎭 Culture
Peoria Irish Fest returns to the riverfront this weekend with Irish music, dancing and Celtic culture on Friday and Saturday.
Doors open Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 12 p.m., and Sunday features a 10:30 a.m. Mass with free entry for those who bring a canned good.
Central Illinois writer Newton Holt premieres his five-part audio drama series Imprimatur today.
The series is set in 1944 Chicago, features local theater talent from Peoria, and will release new 60- to 90-minute episodes at midnight every Friday through Sept. 25 on major streaming platforms.
The Peoria Riverfront Museum received its largest gift ever—a $5-million endowment from the Barton Family Foundation to support the Every Student Initiative, which provides free access for students, families and teachers across central Illinois.
The donation may spur additional contributions to the program.
🎓 Education
The Morton Public Library continues offering free books to local children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program — a secure initiative following her passing Tuesday.
Launched in 2024, the program now serves over 3,000 children in the county and will keep inspiring young readers.

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform imaging procedures that help physicians diagnose and monitor cancer and other conditions. This role works closely with patients, providers, and clinical staff to ensure a safe, comfortable, and positive care experience. Illinois Nuclear Medicine licensure, NMTCB and/or ARRT certification are required.
