CRIME NEWS

  • Peoria Police arrested 28-year-old Malachi Alexander on Thursday—accused of robbing a 62-year-old postal worker at gunpoint near the PCCEO Head Start building on West Butler Street on July 23.  25 News Now
  • Illinois State Police released body camera footage from the deadly shooting that occurred on Aug. 5 at Northeast Glen Oak Avenue and Prospect Road—where 41-year-old Brandon Lewis swung a wooden bat at responding officers and was shot, then pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.  25 News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics released an August report showing that Greater Peoria added 3,000 jobs since last year, and the local unemployment rate held at 4.2 — below national levels. The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce said growth in healthcare and workforce programs has helped keep the job market strong.  25 News Now

  • East Peoria’s new $21.6 million police station is set to be completed next summer+ the city council recently approved spending on gym equipment for the facility.  WCBU

  • Lane closures will begin on Miramar Drive on September 8 for storm sewer repair work that is expected to last two weeks—weather permitting.  City of Peoria

  • Last Friday, Peoria high school football saw Peoria Notre Dame face Peoria High in a key Big 12 contest at Peoria Stadium—Farmington also played a major rivalry game against Elmwood/Brimfield amid other city matchups.   • The Richwoods Knights honored late teammate Santonio Wallace by wearing decals and using a missing man formation during their home opener at Endres Field as they beat Manual 28—14.
