CULTURE NEWS

  • Peoria Civic Center announced that country music artist Jason Aldean with Mate Smith will perform in January with tickets going on sale next week. The center added new shows after the Scottish Rite Theater closed—Storm chaser Reed Timmer will appear in October and Blue October in December.  WMBD
  • Peoria band Revel in Red will host a memorial benefit concert tomorrow at the 3300 Room to honor late bassist Pete Ramsey—killed in a car crash in the Ozarks—while all proceeds support his widow and three children. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  25 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bradley University will host its second TEDx event next Wednesday at Bradley Hall from 5-7 p.m.—seven speakers including President James Shadid and leaders from OSF HealthCare, UICOMP, and Lawrence Technological University will share ideas on new solutions to social challenges. Participants can join the discussion to learn how these experts plan to strengthen the community.  WCBU

  • The Morton Village Board officially named the green space and parking area 'Church Square' near East Jefferson where local events like the Morton Farmers Market N More and the Pumpkin Festival take place, a name that residents have long used. The property was bought in 2015 from the Morton Apostolic Christian Church using sales tax and school funds—reflecting its deep historical ties.  WCBU
  • Illinois Gov JB Pritzker issued Executive Order 2025-04 to protect vaccine access for the fall by directing the public health department to work with other agencies—ensuring that the state issues fall vaccination recommendations by Sept. 26 amid federal changes that eroded trust in vaccine guidance. The order aims to provide clear, science-based advice to families for making informed vaccine decisions.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Peoria Heights Mayor Matt Wigginton said on Facebook he will veto a one-percent grocery tax approved by the Village Board on September 2 because he said it unfairly taxes working families, seniors, and those living paycheck to paycheck—he will formally notify the Board at its next meeting on Tuesday. He said the veto is meant to protect household essentials and help lure new grocers as the tax replaces a state tax ending on January 1.  WMBD
