ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Friends are raising funds to help with Charlotte Bumbalough's funeral expenses after the 16-year-old from Marquette Heights was killed in a three-vehicle crash Saturday morning at the intersection of South 14th Street and Veterans Drive south of Pekin — the accident involved an SUV, a pickup truck, and a motor home. - ➤ On Saturday morning, Peoria Fire crews responded just after 9:30 a.m. to an injured hiker on the Robinson Hiking Trail—drones located him two miles in the woods and crews used a stokes basket and UTV to carry him to a local hospital for treatment. WMBD
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Peoria dropped almost two cents per gallon to an average of $3.33 on Monday according to GasBuddy's survey of 148 stations. Prices are a little over 3.5 cents higher than a month ago and 15 cents lower than this time last year+AAA Illinois reported similar trends in the area. 25 News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington Community High School reported enrollment dropped to 1,360 students—a loss of 44 from last year. Officials expect the number to fall further with fewer than 1,300 students by 2030-31 and under 1,100 by 2034-35. WCBU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Peoria Heights Mayor Matt Wigginton vetoed a 1% grocery tax ahead of today's board meeting, saying the regressive measure would raise grocery costs for low-income families. The tax will miss the Oct. 1 deadline unless the board overrides his veto on October 7—if that happens, it may be implemented mid-year. WCBU
- ➤ Peoria County gave over $1.6 mil+ in grants to local agencies to help adults with disabilities learn job skills and life skills. CWTC Executive Director Patti Gratton said the funds will support job training programs during the 2025 to 2026 fiscal year. 25 News Now
