COMMUNITY NEWS

  • GoldStar families held its annual commemoration Saturday in Peoria—featuring speakers, songs, and a Missing Man Table ceremony to honor their loved ones. Executive Director Designate Darin Funk said the event was funded by donations and helped families come together before the holidays.  WMBD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Peoria dropped 0.8 cents a gallon to average $3.32 today, according to a GasBuddy survey of 148 stations—prices are 1.4 cents above last month’s level and 10.4 cents lower than this time last year. AAA Illinois reported that the Peoria/Pekin metro average was $3.33, compared to $3.37 for the state and $3.18 for the national average.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Funeral services for former Governor Jim Edgar were held Saturday at Central Baptist Church in Springfield after he died from pancreatic cancer on Sept. 14 at age 79. Former Congressman Ray LaHood of Peoria and Governor JB Pritzker praised his legacy for honesty and public service—LaHood called him the gold standard for integrity while Pritzker said he was among his mentors.  WMBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • It is week 5 of the IHSA football season and several Peoria-area high schools will host conference games this Friday with most matchups starting at 7 p.m. and additional leagues such as Mid-Illini and Tri-County playing at 6 or 7:30 p.m. (venues include Peoria Stadium, Richwoods Stadium, and Normal Community).  Pekin Daily Times
  • A recent Smilehub report ranked Illinois third for sports lovers, showing the state scored nearly 52 points based on factors such as sports bars per capita, professional teams and sports jobs—indicating strong support for a vibrant sports scene. The study compared metrics across states to highlight how Illinois stands among top sports regions.  Pekin Daily Times
