CRIME NEWS

  • A Limestone High School student was taken into custody Monday afternoon for allegedly having a weapon on school grounds, and Bartonville Police—along with the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office—are handling the case as the school adds extra security measures today.  WMBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peoria Public Schools and search firm From The Heart International Educational Services, LLC will hold a town hall at Peoria High School later this week from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to gather community input on selecting the next superintendent after Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat retires at the end of the school year.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria plans to bid on the 70-acre Expo Gardens property at auction on Wednesday and may add an extra $875,000 from its OPEB fund if the final price exceeds the approved $1.1 million—city leaders hope to use the land for a new residential neighborhood.  Peoria Journal Star

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Scottish Rite Theater in Peoria is on the market for $5.8 million after its operator ceased operations—canceling shows and moving two events to the Civic Center—and it has over 900 seats with a banquet hall, meeting rooms, and offices, while the building was previously owned by Kim Blickenstaff’s KDB Group.  WMBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • Renovation crews began installing a new playing surface Monday morning at Dozer Park, the downtown stadium that has hosted the Peoria Chiefs since 2022. The nearly $1 million project adds new sod and infield dirt for high school games and other events—updating MLB-required upgrades and refreshing the ballpark ahead of opening day next year—.  WCBU
