- ➤ Peoria County is celebrating its Bicentennial today with a block party downtown at Courthouse Plaza from 3 to 7 p.m.—County Board Member Rob Reneau said food trucks, live music, and kids' activities will take place while 35 fiberglass bison sculptures are on display with more expected later. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Entertainment lawyer Andrew Velcoff spoke Friday at Bradley University in Peoria about the rise of artificial intelligence in movies—he explained that while AI offers affordable tools for producers, it may also lead to job losses and require new copyright rules. 25 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Peoria Public Works is two years into its two-and-a-half year project converting Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue from one-way to two-way traffic. Starting Monday, crews will mill, overlay and pave Adams Street from Walnut to Hamilton as two left lanes and a parking lane close until October 17—work on Jefferson Avenue will begin after Adams Street is complete. 25 News Now
- ➤ The intersection of S. Warren Street and W. Widenham Street will be closed to all traffic starting 7 a.m. Monday, October 6th—this change is part of the Combined Sewer Overflow Year 3 Control Project and will last two weeks weather permitting as drivers use S. DuSable Street as an alternate route. City of Peoria
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Peoria’s Crew 309 is a nonprofit rowing group that helps breast cancer survivors and previvors through year-round training on land and on the Illinois River from Water Street. Founded in 2017 by Lindsey Vlaminck and Kassie Williams, the team is honored with a mural by local drone artist Chris LaCrone—emphasizing its strong community support. WMBD

- ➤ Illinois high school football games in the Peoria area ended Friday night and continue today. Peoria High beat Richwoods 60 to 7 and Peoria Notre Dame beat Manual 58 to 12 while some games, like Fieldcrest at Melrose Park, start at 1 p.m. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ Peoria-area high school football action played Friday night as city schools faced off at Peoria Stadium and Richwoods Stadium — with additional Mid-Illini contests featuring unbeaten teams.
