- ➤ The City of Peoria will host an honorary street naming ceremony at Agatucci’s (2607 N. University St.) at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15 to honor the nearly 100-year family restaurant by naming a part of Gift Avenue at University Street as Via Agatucci. Mayor Rita Ali and Councilman Alex Carmona will speak (the public is invited to join the celebration) as the community marks this important local legacy. City of Peoria
- ➤ Peoria's Pathway Ministries leader Jon Rocke will sit on a bench for 24 hours today at 2 p.m.—he will hold Conversations on a Bench outside his ministry at 601 SW Adams to discuss homelessness with city officials including Mayor Rita Ali. WMBD
- ➤ Hy-Vee delivered a semitrailer full of non-perishable foods worth about $26,180 to the Midwest Food Bank Tuesday to help fill Christmas Food Boxes for families and will have employees pack boxes on Oct 21 from 1 to 3 p.m.—boxes that the Salvation Army will distribute after Thanksgiving. 25 News Now
- ➤ Peoria for Palestine and the Jewish Federation of Peoria released statements Tuesday to mark two years since the Oct. 7 attack that led to war in Israel—one group said violence is wrong and urged war crimes to be punished—and the other honored the courage of survivors. 25 News Now

- ➤ Dancing with the Stars: Live! is set to play in Peoria at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater on March 1, 2026, featuring fan-favorite professionals from the show's 34th season and new routines created for the tour. Local pre-sale began today at 10 a.m.—tickets will be available tomorrow at 10 a.m. 25 News Now
- ➤ Peoria artist Qingjun Huang is showing his exhibition 'In Her Silence, God' at The Foster Gallery, where his photos are overlaid with biblical text hand-copied by his 81-year-old mother—exploring a message of love and faith. WCBU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Peoria Heights trustees overridden the mayor’s veto on a 1-percent grocery tax, which now may take effect as soon as July 1 — with an advisory referendum planned for the March 17 primary to let voters weigh in. The tax is estimated to add $125,000 a year to village funds. WMBD
- ➤ Peoria’s plan to add a passenger rail line to Chicago now needs more funding as the estimated cost for step two increased from $4 million to $6.4 million—90% of which is covered by federal funds and the council will review the request next Tuesday. The project will move into a service development phase in 2026 and later require about $5 million from state and local sources for engineering and environmental approvals. 25 News Now
- ➤ Two leading manufacturers in Peoria are set to lose federal funding for energy projects due to the government shutdown—Congressman Eric Sorensen said over $2.5 million for Komatsu and more than $3.2 million for Caterpillar will be canceled, calling the move a political stunt. WMBD
