COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Peoria will host a street naming ceremony next week to launch Agatucci’s planned 100th anniversary celebrations when a portion of Gift Ave on University St is renamed 'Via Agatucci'—meaning 'Agatucci Way' in Italian. The ceremony will unveil a special logo on Wednesday that will appear on merchandise at the restaurant.  WMBD
  • Local groups the Jewish Federation and Peoria for Palestine celebrated a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas late Wednesday after over two years of fighting, loss, and destruction. The groups said the deal brings hope for healing + a step toward lasting peace.  25 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Google Frightgeist has released its annual ranking of popular Halloween costumes in Illinois, revealing that Peoria residents are mostly searching for Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters—an indication of the trending spooky season choices across the state.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Wildlife Scary Park, now in its 40th season, begins this weekend at Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City—offering spooky train rides, a new ADA train car, and a carnival that will run through October 26. The event starts Friday at 4 p.m. and continues at noon on Saturday and Sunday for visitors of all ages.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria City Council members considered a series of budget changes on Tuesday to close a $3M gap in spending for 2026. The proposals include delaying road projects to 2027, cutting $600K from an operating agreement, and reducing a $2M pension contribution — all to help balance future expenses and revenues.  WCBU
  • Peoria Heights trustees approved a plan that sends Peoria firefighters automatically to emergency calls after Mayor Wigginton cast a deciding vote Tuesday night. Some trustees worry the new scheme may cost the village money while Interim Fire Chief Tony Ardis expects it will shorten response times for fires and vehicle extrications—boosting emergency service safety.  WMBD

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study by ValuePenguin shows that American adults now average 9 hours of sleep per night, with Illinois residents getting about 9 hours and 11 minutes—placing the state eighth among the sleepiest. The study also finds that older adults sleep the most while North Dakota records the lowest nightly average at 8 hours and 22 minutes.  Pekin Daily Times
