  • Dave Portnoy, president of Barstool Sports, visited a Monical's location in Champaign on Oct. 8th and rated its pizza 7.4. He said the paper wrapping and light char made it a solid example of thin-crust tavern style—while noting that several locations serve local fans in Peoria.  Pekin Daily Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Tazewell County Jail is using bottled water and disinfecting its pipes—steps taken after tests found legionella following the death of a 93-year-old inmate charged with murder who had legionnaires’ disease. Sheriff Lower said eligible non-violent inmates will be released to reduce crowding.  WCBU
  • Tazewell County and Carle Health will offer free mammograms on Friday, October 17 at Carle Health North, Carle Health-Proctor, and Carle Health-Pekin+ eligible women ages 40-64, including the uninsured, can get screened to catch breast cancer early.  WMBD

  • Peoria was ranked ninth among America's best places to buy a home by ConsumerAffairs—credited for its strong affordability and 42% rise in property values over the past two years, with homeowners spending only 24.6% of their income on housing compared to the national average.  Pekin Daily Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The IHSA golf state finals ended Saturday in Bloomington-Normal and Decatur, where Peoria-area golfers Nolan Eccles and Wyatt Novotny won individual state titles—24 athletes and four teams competed across Class 1A, 2A and 3A events as scores set state trophies and top 10 medalist honors. Officials noted that team results and individual medals reflected close contests that highlighted strong local representation.  Pekin Daily Times
