COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 25, roads around Bradley University Campus will be closed from 7:45 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. for the Bradley Sigma Nu Halloween 4K Fundraiser, and drivers are advised to use alternate routes—runners will start and finish at Clarissa Court following a set race route.  City of Peoria
  • On October 25, lane restrictions will be enforced on several city streets from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the Lady Renee White Rocks in Pink Cancer Walk sponsored by Grace Baptist Church—drivers should use alternative routes.  City of Peoria

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alwans and Sons Meat Company said its sprinkler system was set to turn on automatically at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and was shut off quickly when protestors were nearby—store employees on the roof were there to take photos, not act as hired security. The company apologized in a public letter and said it will review its internal processes to prevent future issues.  WMBD

CRIME NEWS

  • A small group gathered downtown on Monday morning at the Justice for Sonya Massey Rally during Sean Grayson's trial to demand justice and police reforms—Chama St. Louis said the event featured music, remarks from Massey family members, and stories of police brutality.  25 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Peoria Itoo Society has announced its 98th annual two-day supper to celebrate Lebanese heritage and preserve long-held traditions at Itoo Hall on W. Farmington Road. Drive-thru pickup is set for Nov.1 (3-6 p.m.) and the dine-in buffet with carry-out is scheduled for Nov.2 (11 a.m.-6 p.m., online orders due Oct.31) with meals at $20, marking a key fundraiser for the community.  WCBU
  • The Catholic Diocese of Peoria broke ground on Sunday to convert the Spalding Institute into The Fulton J. Sheen Experience—a cultural center costing $9 million to $11 million funded by private donations that will feature interactive exhibits and artifacts from the archbishop’s television and radio work. Officials said the center is expected to attract 10,000 to 15,000 visitors annually and will open in about two years.  WMBD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Peoria gas prices dropped by 11.2 cents to an average of $3.14 on Monday — GasBuddy reported that prices are 19.5 cents lower than last month with the cheapest at $2.93 and the highest at $3.49. Experts say the trend could keep prices below $3 for the next few months.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • About 1.9 million Illinois residents risk losing SNAP benefits on November 1 if the federal shutdown continues—$350 million in aid provided monthly to low-income families, including many with children and those with disabilities, may be cut. Gov. Pritzker said the state has few options to support these families given its budget challenges, yet benefits will continue if a budget is passed before the end of October.  WMBD

  • The IESA cross country state finals in Normal on Oct. 18 at Maxwell Park awarded trophies to the top four teams and named 25 all-state runners in each boys and girls race. The event saw strong finishes by teams such as Brimfield and Mount Prospect St. Raymond — with standout times by racers including Brynn Bartkus and Dylan Weimer.  Pekin Daily Times
  • The Illinois High School Association released its 2025 playoff outlook ahead of Week 9, listing 156 automatic qualifiers and additional teams competing for the remaining playoff spots based on wins and playoff points.
