COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Peoria City Hall hosted the 6th annual City Hall-O-Ween event on Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., with all four floors open to Trick or Treaters and city staff in costumes—after which the Peoria Police Department held its Trick or Treat event at headquarters from 5 to 7 p.m.  WMBD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The long-awaited CJ Harvest grocery store on Peoria’s south side faces another delay although owner Chuck Brown remains optimistic it will open by December — he has spent four years converting the former storefront into a neighborhood market with fresh produce, a deli, and a seating area. Nearly 30 trained employees are set as the community waits for the new gathering space — delays in construction and funding continue to hold up progress.  25 News Now
  • Hoop's Pub and Pizza in Peoria announced it is under new ownership and will eventually expand—new owners thanked customers for nearly three decades of support. The restaurant remains at 516 Main St #1029 as stated in a Facebook post.  25 News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • State regulators will decide in November and December on proposals that would raise natural gas bills for Ameren and Nicor customers next year. Administrative judges recommended cutting the companies’ original rate requests — Ameren’s increase would be about $5.80 per month while Nicor’s rise is expected to be 5%-6%.  WMBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Donzaleigh Abernathy visited Annie Jo Gordon Middle School to share her story and stress the need for education ahead of the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet—she drew on her experience with segregation to inspire local students. Her visit reinforced the call for continued progress in civil rights and highlighted the importance of learning for future generations.  25 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • With winter nearly here, the city is enforcing a public camping ban that leaves unsheltered residents vulnerable—forcing them to change camps so they cannot winterize their tents. Local groups are urging officials to create a permanent transitional shelter while projects like a tiny home shelter and a new men's shelter are in progress.  WMBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Illinois Fighting Illini will play Washington today at 2:30 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network—coming off a bye week and after Washington lost at Michigan—and sports editors predict a close game with Washington favored by 4.5 points and an over/under of 54.5.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Week 9 high school football in the Peoria area had Friday night games as teams fought for playoff spots and conference titles—Madduz Heitzler of Annawan/Wethersfield was named MVP while Princeville High became a national finalist for a $1 million stadium upgrade. Other matchups provided key moments that set up crucial games for playoff berths as teams sought to finish the regular season strong.  Pekin Daily Times
  • On Friday night, high school football in Peoria saw Peoria High beat Normal Community 14—7 while other local games ended in ties and shutouts. Week 9 scores show local teams fighting hard as they continue their season.  Pekin Daily Times
