COMMUNITY NEWS

  • East Peoria Fire Department will offer a free car seat check at the Central Fire Station, 201 W Washington Street, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3—this will be the last check until March 2026.  City of East Peoria
  • Peoria’s Wraparound Center at Peoria Public Schools is offering food pantry services every two weeks and a diaper drive for families amid the ongoing government shutdown. Director Dr. Myskeshia Mitchell said demand has increased for all income groups and the center will host a diaper giveaway on Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  25 News Now

  • Jerry Agatucci, a respected co-owner of Agatucci’s, died Tuesday night at 87. He retired in 2005 and was known for treating customers like family — a quality honored at a recent street sign dedication ceremony.  25 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Peoria Heights' Soderstrom Family Castle will offer holiday tours in December with 30-minute tours that give visitors full access to rarely seen rooms, unique artifacts, live Madrigal performances, and refreshments. Tour dates are Sunday, Dec. 7, 14, and 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 10 and 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. (each tour concludes with Trefzger's cookies and punch served in a German Glühwein mug that guests keep).  Pekin Daily Times
  • The Peoria Riverfront Museum will host the —Big Picture Peoria Film Festival— from Nov 20 to Nov 22 to showcase local and regional filmmakers; the festival will feature film screenings in its Giant Screen Theater, interactive question and answer sessions and live music during breaks. This event offers a chance for audiences to engage directly with creative talent and experience Peoria’s vibrant film culture.  25 News Now

  • Mayors from Illinois River cities met in Peoria Thursday to launch the Illinois River Cities and Towns Initiative Conference. They joined forces with regional groups + signed a memo with the Illinois River Biological Station to boost tourism, freight, and water protection going forward.  25 News Now
  • Peoria International Airport director Gene Olson said flight cuts ordered by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will begin today at major airports and could affect connecting flights if hubs like O’Hare reduce flights by 10%. He noted that Allegiant Air may face fewer impacts—since it mainly flies to smaller airports—passengers should use their airline apps for updates.  WMBD

  • Campbell’s State of the Sides report shows that for Thanksgiving in Illinois, mashed potatoes and stuffing/dressing tied as the top sides—mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, and green bean casserole rounded out the favorites from a survey of 5,000 adults.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Curly Shawarma opened in West Peoria so locals can try Mediterranean dishes—its top sellers include chicken shawarma, beef shawarma, and a mix grill plate. The restaurant is at 831 N Western Ave and operates Sunday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays until midnight.  25 News Now
