COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carle Health Methodist Hospital held a flag-raising ceremony Tuesday—honoring veterans and reminding residents to support them. The event featured remarks from a veteran team member and color guards from the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  25 News Now
  • The Central Illinois Christmas Fund is working to raise $125,000 to provide 4,000 food boxes with a holiday meal and gift card for extra food for those in need. Residents can sign up by letter or email by Dec. 3 — donations will be honored with a special message in the local paper.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Peoria Friendship House increased turkey donations from 250 to 300 to help more families facing rising need before Thanksgiving. The food pantry will distribute meals on the Sunday before the holiday from 1-3 p.m.—donations are accepted until Dec. 2.  25 News Now
  • On Saturday, Nov. 15, lane restrictions will go into effect for the St. Jude Catholic School 5K starting at 9 a.m. at 10911 Knoxville Ave and lasting until 11 a.m.; drivers are advised to use alternative routes as the race follows a course through N. Dana Court, W. Wilhelm Road, N. Northtrail Drive, and Timothy J. Cassidy Park + returns to the school.  City of Peoria

  • Peoria entrepreneur Brian Braggs, a retired Army combat medic who served nearly 10 years and worked in fire-rescue, used his GI Bill to earn a business degree and now runs an at-home care franchise—he plans to hire more veterans for key roles.  25 News Now

  • Bradley University named Dan Moon as its permanent provost after he served in an interim role since last year—he was chosen after a national search and came to Bradley in 2022 as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with 17 years of administrative experience at the University of North Florida.  WCBU
  • Advance Illinois, a bipartisan education advocacy group, visited Illinois Central College’s Peoria campus on Wednesday to share results from its report 'The State We’re In' that shows a $8.9 billion gap in early education funding and rising mental health issues among students. The report noted that nearly 40 percent of students reported persistent sadness and highlighted the need for more counselors and support — a call that comes as Peoria Public Schools continue to improve graduation rates and reading skills.  WMBD
  • Peoria Public Schools honored bus driver Carnisha Adams for her quick action during a mid-October field trip — she stopped the bus and called emergency services when a student had a medical emergency — and she received the Remarkable Spirit Award at Tuesday night’s board meeting.  25 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flight cancellations at Peoria International Airport rose to 11—14% from last Friday through Tuesday due to a 43-day government shutdown, airport officials said. The House was set to vote Wednesday evening to reopen the government—airlines warned that holiday travel in 10 days might see more delays if the shutdown persists.  25 News Now

  • City leaders celebrated the ribbon cutting of Adams Street Center on the 800 block of Southwest Adams Street, a redeveloped 1918 building that now houses apartments, restaurants and shops in the Warehouse District. Developer Baldovin said he will work with the city to add string lights and bring new restaurants to boost nightlife in downtown Peoria.  Peoria Journal Star

  • The Illinois Volleyball Coaches Association named 15 Peoria-area players all-state for 2025 including standout athletes from Morton and Limestone in Class 1A, 2A, and 3A schools—this honor comes ahead of four state championships set for Friday and Saturday.
