CULTURE NEWS

  • The Peoria Historical Society is holding the Holiday Home Tour, which lets visitors see six historic houses decorated in styles from classic Christmas to Jane Austen-inspired themes—an event that shows a different side of our local history. Visitors who tour all six houses will be entered in a drawing for a $100 gift card, and the tour runs Saturday, Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  25 News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ameren will raise natural gas bills by $3.65 for about 816,000 customers in January after state regulators approved a $73 million rate increase. The company said its 12 storage fields help keep costs low — though consumer groups say the rise is too steep — as families face higher heating expenses.  WMBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois Central College Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five members on Feb. 7 during halftime at an ICC men's basketball game at Ramsey Gym—followed by a formal ceremony at CougarPlex to honor Sandy Griggs, Christine Koehl, Rachel Muller, Jennifer Bartlett and Anthony Allison.  Pekin Daily Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Peoria Fire Department installed 1,000 smoke alarms through the Be Alarmed! Smoke Alarm Installation Program, a project with Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Camp I Am Me (CIAM) and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM); it will receive a plaque at a press event on December 2 at 11 a.m. at Peoria Fire Central.  City of Peoria
  • Peoria advocates say the city’s encampment ban is forcing vulnerable homeless residents into a tougher situation as winter nears—residents living in camps may face escalating fines and jail terms. City leaders and advocates worry that the loss of motel funding and planned federal cuts to permanent housing support will worsen the crisis.  25 News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • A proposal to the Illinois High School Association would expand the state football playoffs by adding 128 schools and enlarging playoff fields so more teams receive a first round bye. The plan — which will start the season one week earlier and still finish with state finals on Thanksgiving weekend — also removes the five-win requirement and introduces a flexed regional system for closer matchups.  WMBD
