ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire in Peoria on Tuesday morning was caused by faulty electrical equipment that damaged a home for $25,000 and sent one resident to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Firefighters rescued two elderly residents and a dog and eight cats from the burning home near NE Madison and Alexander Avenues — prompt action that helped limit further harm. WMBD
- ➤ A trash fire on the fifth floor of New Hope Apartments displaced multiple residents Tuesday evening in downtown Peoria—Battalion Chief Josh Maroney said no injuries occurred, the sprinkler system limited the spread, and restoration work has begun with an estimated water damage of $60,000. WMBD
- ➤ Bianca Sassman set up a GoFundMe to help her daughter’s family after a fire nearly destroyed their home on Linden Street on Dec. 2—firefighters got the blaze under control within 20 minutes and the family lost most of their belongings while raising nearly 60% of their $2,600 goal as the cause remains under investigation. - ➤ Peoria Public Schools now own Central Park Pool and plan to spend about $3 million to renovate it—upgrading the filter system, infrastructure and HVAC so that swimming returns to the curriculum and free lessons are offered to district children. 25 News Now

- ➤ The Peoria Fire Department was honored Tuesday morning by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance for installing 1,000 free smoke detectors in homes, a program started in 2018 that has helped lower fire injuries and deaths. Division Chief of Prevention Nate Rice said over 800 residences now have working alarms—boosting home safety in our community. WMBD
- ➤ Peoria Fire Department urges residents to check their smoke alarms as winter begins — Fire Chief Sean Sollberger said only about 30% of Illinois homes have a working alarm installed. 25 News Now
- ➤ Peoria’s snow removal crews worked 12-hour shifts to clear main roads after 5½ inches of snow fell Saturday and 2½ inches fell Monday. Deputy Director Sie Maroon said drivers were urged to yield to plow trucks as some secondary streets still had icy patches — the crews completed clearing the major routes before Tuesday. WCBU
