ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire destroyed a greenhouse at a residence on Koch and Galena Road on Sunday night; firefighters arrived just before 8:30 p.m. and quickly put out the flames with no injuries and no damage to other structures.  WMBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local bars and restaurants host festive holiday pop-ups with themed decor, special drinks and seasonal events; City Heat, Jalapeños, Kelleher’s, Nightjar, Oliver’s and Thyme’s offer unique experiences through January — inviting residents to celebrate the season in Peoria.  Pekin Daily Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmdoc will host the Illinois Farm Economics Summit on Dec. 16, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria to help local farmers learn about market trends and management strategies amid rising input costs.  WCBU
  • GasBuddy reports Monday's Peoria average gas price is $3.02 per gallon — down 5.5 cents in one week and nearly 20 cents lower than a month ago. Analysts say prices will likely remain low into the new year as statewide rates follow this downward trend.  WMBD

  • Two seniors from Richwoods High School earned full-ride scholarships to Ivy League schools through the QuestBridge program. Johnny Thai will study pre-med at University of Pennsylvania and Kevin Liao will major in physics at Princeton, and both are in the IB program.  25 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria City Council will consider $300K in emergency funding today to keep New Hope Apartments open and prevent 80 residents from becoming homeless this winter. Development Director Joe Dulin said the funding may cover a fire watch — a stopgap as the building battles recurring fire damage.  WMBD
