Good morning, Peoria. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 10th of December.

CRIME NEWS

  • Illinois law says that keeping a misdelivered package can lead to a Class B misdemeanor, so if you find one on your doorstep, check the address and call the carrier to pick it up rather than opening it — this helps you avoid fines and legal trouble.  Pekin Daily Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Richwoods High School students earned full-ride scholarships to Ivy League universities through the QuestBridge National College Match program. Johnny Thai will study pre-med at Penn and Kevin Liao will study physics at Princeton; a third student qualified and awaits a decision in spring.  WMBD

  • Peoria County Board of Health approved higher fees for vaccines and vital records on Dec. 9. Vaccine fees set per insurance guidelines will take effect Jan. 1, and new rates for birth and death certificates will begin Feb. 1.  WCBU
  • Peoria City Council approved $300K ARPA funds on Dec. 9 to support New Hope Apartments after an intentionally set fire disabled its alarm system, ensuring a 24/7 fire watch until Feb. 28 for 80 residents. The measure is a temporary fix amid ongoing homelessness support and insurance issues.  Peoria Journal Star
  • Peoria City Council accepted an $11-million donation from the Hengst Foundation Tuesday night to help build an amphitheater with up to 5,000 seats at Riverfront Park. The city and the foundation will work on preliminary design plans before the final design is approved for construction.  WMBD
