CULTURE NEWS

  • The museum begins a year-long celebration on Jan. 31 with seven exhibits and planetarium shows highlighting America’s history, including a centerpiece exhibit curated by Ken Burns. The $2.5 million project offers free access for K-12 students (via a $1M commitment) from across Illinois.  WMBD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Peoria gas prices averaged $2.82 a gallon on Monday, up 2.3 cents this week but still 19.8 cents lower than last month and 36.1 cents lower than this time last year, according to GasBuddy & AAA Illinois. Seasonal trends could drive prices upward toward March.  25 News Now
  • Gas prices in Peoria increased 2.3 cents in the past week to average $2.82 a gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy. AAA Illinois confirmed similar pricing & national averages dropped slightly, keeping local costs below those of last month and last year.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria Heights will begin breaking ground on an $8.5 million filtration plant in 2026 to upgrade its aging water system & replace lead service lines at no cost to residents. The new plant is expected to operate by 2027.  WMBD
  • Officials in Peoria Heights plan an $8.5 million overhaul to build a new filtration plant to replace aging lead service lines — the work will begin in 2026 with cleaner water expected by 2027.  25 News Now
