- ➤ Peoria Park District is hosting its 12th Worldwide Day of Play today at Glen Oak Park with free family activities such as face painting, bounce houses, carnival games, obstacle courses, a career expo and the Clyde West Fishing Derby starting at 9 a.m. The event runs until 2 p.m.+ visitors also receive a $3 discount on admissions to the Zoo and PlayHouse Children’s Museum. - ➤ Elite Community Outreach coordinated with the Peoria County Sheriff's Office on Friday at the county jail to bring seventh- and eighth-graders together with re-entry inmates who shared their personal accounts of crime and its consequences. - ➤ Marcus Rossi, a med student at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria and the youngest of nine, will become a doctor in his family's third generation and be married today hours after his graduation with the ceremony held across from the Civic Center to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He plans to practice dermatology after noticing skin damage in local farmers—he says his family’s long history of healing inspired his choice. 25 News Now

- ➤ The Peoria County Board appointed George McKenna as the Regional Superintendent effective June 1, with Branden Martin named Treasurer on July 14 and Chad Jones chosen as Supervisor of Assessments on May 20—each filling roles vacated by retiring officials. McKenna, a 30-year education veteran, served as Assistant Superintendent since 2016 while Martin and Jones bring local business and assessment experience to their new positions. WMBD
- ➤ The city will begin slurry seal road projects on Tuesday, May 13 in all five council districts, with work expected to last about one week weather permitting—residents will be notified 24 to 48 hours in advance and must remove parked vehicles as driveway access may be limited for three hours.
