If you haven't voted yet, polls are open today, Tue., Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Peoria County had more than 14,500 mail-in ballots by midday Monday, plus more than 14,000 early in-person voters. Executive director Jessily Joseph called turnout "pretty historic for a midterm."

In Tazewell County, Clerk John Ackerman said vote-by-mail requests are up 59% and in-person early voting is up 41% since 2022. Whether that means a bigger turnout isn't known yet, and Joseph said rain could play a role.

Washington and Peoria Notre Dame win super-sectionals and could meet for the state title

Two area boys soccer teams are one win from meeting each other for the state championship. Washington beat Triad 1-0 in the Class 2A Urbana super-sectional Monday. Peoria Notre Dame beat Lemont 2-1 in overtime at Darien.

Truman Lenover headed in Washington's goal 4:39 after kickoff. Notre Dame's Cal Byrkit scored in regulation, and Joey Alwan won it with 22 seconds left in the first overtime. That avenged a 2024 penalty-kick loss to Lemont.

To the neighbors whose teens were trick-or-treating around here at 10:30 last night, I hope you know you’ve done a great job raising your kids.

“I had to get ready for bed, so I left a bag of candy outside for any latecomers. When the teens stopped by, they each took just one piece. So respectful and such a breath of fresh air. Truly, thank you for raising such wonderful kids! 🙌🏽”

The Wrap

Cabbage rolls, baked kibbeh and Lebanese green beans have been feeding Peoria for a long time. The Itoo Supper goes back to November 1928, when a group of women cooked a community meal to help pay off the mortgage on the original Itoo Hall. Sunday's was the 99th. Now that's a recipe with staying power.
